I recently had the great fortune to travel to Costa Rica, and I dreamed of riding a horse - galloping down a wild coast at sunset with wind whipping through my hair. I guess I was yearning for that feeling of freedom and speed (and maybe a little bit of rebellion?).
The stars aligned, as they sometimes do when you throw out wishes to the universe, and quite spontaneously I arrived with some friends at a very special horse ranch in Punta Islita.
McKenzie, who's horse obsession led her to move to Costa Rica and pursue her dream of running a horse ranch (Blue Zone Equestrian), offers various treks and trail rides with her diverse herd—ranging from rescues to fancy sport horses. Her herd is made up of everything from Quarter Horses to Warmbloods to the native Costa Rican Criollos.
After a leisurely ride through a vibrant jungle, McKenzie led us to a secluded beach where I flew down the coast on a huge, powerful and agile animal. I scratched my itch. Pure exhilaration.
In a desire to capture the beauty of the experience, I brought my cameras and a few Kamperett pieces I had packed for the trip, and post-ride, McKenzie and her friend Sophie were up for taking a few photos. I'm by no means a photographer and don't really have much of a clue of what I'm doing with the camera, but I know the feeling that I want to capture and am unable to control my impulse to document these fleeting moments of magic.
Perhaps I was subconsciously preparing for this Year of the Horse, and exercising the muscles involved in moving forward with speed, spontaneity, creativity, and intuition.
Wishing everyone freedom, fiery passion and the manifestation of your dreams.
With Love,
Anna
